Hello,
This is my second installment of my blogs section. I do not know how many there will end up being, but hopefully it is alot :)
Let's get started. Ok, I REALLY have a problem with abortion. What is there to question whether or not it is the taking of a human life? I mean, we don't pop out of kangaroos, right? Flowers don't grow inside a woman's uterus, right? Isn't all the genetic material (to build a human) present at the point of conception?
Do scientists know the well-defined purpose of the zygote? (Note: a zygote is "The unique diploid cell formed by the fusion of two haploid cells [often an egg and a sperm] that will divide mitotically to create a differentiated diploid organism.".......... in other words: YOU and I at the point of conception) The answer is YES, they DO know the well-defined purpose of the zygote. Just look in the definition. You will notice that it says that two haploid cells join to create a "differentiated diploid organism". First we must note the "differentiated organism" part. Ok, what is it differentiated from?
A)The parents. We all know that no two people have the exact same set of DNA unless identical twins. Not only that, but the definition ALSO states that the zygote is a "unique diploid" meaning that it is also different from everyone else.
And B)Other species. Our species is unique. Someone one time said, "Haven't you ever noticed how the human fetus at a couple of weeks looks just like a dog's fetus or a cow's fetus?" So I politely responded, "Yes."..... because they do LOOK the same. Does this prove that we are the same as those animals when we are conceived? No. A puppy comes out a puppy and we come out baby humans. We have 98% the same genetic material as a chimp....... and 50% the same as a tulip. A monkey's not my uncle and my girlfriend doesn't have flowers growing in her uterus. Can it be proven that we are different at conception? You betcha! Just take some DNA from a zygote and test it. It will be the same then as it is 90 years later. Yeah, I guess we really do go from a dog to a human. Please.
Secondly, we must look at the phrase "diploid organism" in the definition. For this, we must look at the definition of organism: "Any living thing." Note how it says "living". Have we gotten ANY clue now as to how the human zygote must be a living, unique, organism? If we take away ANY of these attributes, then scientists must change the definition to accomodate society's view OR society's view of the zygote must be changed to accomodate the scientific definition. I choose the latter.
The well-defined purpose of the zygote is this: To grow and develope into a distinct and mature version of the particular type of organism that it's DNA dictates. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT.

So then we have the argument of whether or not it (zygote or fetus) is part of the woman's body. This is again easily answered: YES. Does this mean that she can do with it whatever she wants? NO. Think of it like this: we all have sexual organs which are abviously part of our body. Are we allowed by law to do with them what we want? NO. If someone has sex with a minor, it is illegal. If someone exposes themselves in public or to a minor, it is illegal. If someone forces sex on another (rape), it is illegal. What makes you think that a living human fetus can be sacrificed for the sake of a woman's ego?
Now, just because it is part of the woman's body doesn't mean that it's not a separate being. If it were the same being, then every women from the time of Eve would all look alike, and in fact BE Eve (since the fetus would not be a separate being.....see "associative property"; i.e. if A=B and B=C, then A must = C). My mother's name is Charlotte, therefore my mother is NOT Eve.
==============================================
Now for the question of choice. I am pro-choice. I believe a woman has the right to choose anything she wants. I believe that women are equal to (or SHOULD be equal to) men on a societal level. I believe that a woman has the right to do with her body as much as a man has a right to do with his. What I don't believe is that a woman has a right to terminate her pregnancy by means of killing a human fetus. (Note that the question of whether or not the fetus at the point of conception is a distinct human has already been answered) I believe that just like I believe that killing ANY human is illegal and immoral no matter WHAT the age.
===============================================
Also, we talk alot about EQUAL rights these days. Think about this: if a woman has the right to choose whether or not to kill a fetus, then the man should certainly have the same right since:
A) The fetus is 1/2 HIS genetic make up.
B) The man traditionally is required to be the child's breadwinner. This is 18 years as opposed to 9 months, a factor of 24.
===============================================
If you really want to know why I believe how I do, it all boils down to the last paragraph of my first blog (11/16/2004) on evolution. People want what they want and that's that. It's all ego based. Humanity will NEVER be saved by people trying to form laws without standards. If a standard is to be followed, it must meet some important criteria:
A)It must be a truth. By a "truth", I mean that it is NOT relative to what someone believes. If it is, then it is not a truth, it is an oppinion.
B)It must work for the better of a society AND the individuals in it. Again, this is BEYOND oppinion. In other words, if the masses decide that arbitrarily killing men between the ages of 24 and 35 is good, it SHOULDN'T become a standard of law because it is an OPPINION.
C)It must be moral. Yep. You just go ahead throw the book at me on that one and jump on the band wagon that says you can't legislate morality. The law that says you can't kill someone is a MORAL law. If what you say is true about not being able to legislate morality, then we must repeal that law so murder will be OK. Morality is NOT used to control people. It is used as a means to let us know what is good for EVERYBODY. Many people disagree with this, but it is like I said before, this disagreeing mentality is "my way over God's way". If your way is so "good", then why is the world getting worse?
(Don't say "because of religion". If you say that, you need to specify WHAT religion, why you believe it is bad, how it applies AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, and how God is responsible for people's actions since God chose NOT to control people. Then and ONLY then will I consider that answer to why the world is getting worse.)
=========================================
I must thank you for taking the time to read this blog. I choose to speak the way I do because I am a Christian. I refuse to let immoral ideals stand in my presence without standing up for God. This is not to say that I am perfect or that I don't get tempted or that I haven't made mistakes, but that I BELIEVE as God believes and I choose to conciously stand up for it.
